We did a little Q&A with Mark to get to know him better!
Tell us something about you.
Outside of work, my wife, Mel, and I are kept busy. We have 3 kids and are lucky that in the summer weekends, and holidays, we get to spend a lot of time at Waihi Beach, where we are all involved with the Surf Club. The 2 older kids are qualified Lifeguards and the youngest is in the Rookie Lifeguards, working his way up the the Red and Yellows.
During the winter it’s rugby, lacrosse and netball, plus a few days away snowboarding when we can.
What is the best part about being an adviser?
Being able to assist clients to put plans in place to make sure that that their family or business will be looked after if their world takes a turn for the worse.
The claims I have seen paid to families when things are at their lowest for them, although it may not change what has happened, the benefits certainly help to give them time to work through what they need to, and keeps options available to them, that wouldn't have been the case without the right cover in place.
What is the best advice you can give to your clients as an adviser?
Over the 30 years I have been in the Financial Services Industry I have seen many families and businesses go backwards with their life goals when struck by an unfortunate event - "Insurance is making sure you are taking steps to look after your family, and planning for when things don't go to plan....."
What is your favorite quote/mantra in life?
One that was passed down from a boss of mine in my early days, that has stuck with me is "Don't worry about things you cant change" and another I use often, and if you ask my kids they will tell you they have heard it many times directed their way - "Don't sweat the small stuff..."
