Q. What inspired you to become a Mortgage Broker?
A. I was a banker for over 8 years and did different roles within the bank. I have enjoyed the relationship part of banking and seeing my clients on their business sites. It helped me better understand what my clients did and build strong relationships with them. Furthermore I could see my clients loved this interaction too. In recent years the banking industry has changed and we started losing the relationship part of our jobs. I have decided I still want to do what I do the best: build relationships with my clients and assist them with their development journeys.
Q. What is the best part of being a Mortgage Broker?
A. I don’t take NO for an answer. Last year I completed almost 150 applications and only 1 of them declined. There is always a solution for every situation. You just have to work on it and come up with the right solution. For example, in the last 12 months I have saved 3 businesses from liquidation, the business still in operation and so much stress was removed from my clients lives.
Q. What have you found to be the most challenging aspect?
A. When I was at the bank I was able to make a decision whether the application gets approved or declined. As a broker I am no longer a decision maker and have to ensure the assessor understands my clients as well as I do. Applications I submit need to be a spot on to fly through and it does take some time and ongoing training to prepare.
Q. What is your most memorable client experience?
A. Most memorable experience is when I was able to save 70 year old clients from going through full liquidation and bankruptcy proceedings. My client had massive assets and unfortunately their existing bank didn’t bother helping them. We have to come up with alternative solutions and save the clients. I do take my clients’ situation very personally and treat them as my family members. Maybe that’s why I don’t give up easily.
Q. How would you sum up being a Mortgage Broker in three words?
A. I am not a broker – I am family “finance” Doctor
Q. If you were Prime Minister for one day, what would you do?
A. Focus on keeping families together. Teaching kids what responsibility each of them will have when they are adults and how it is important to have families with old school values, with both parents in them.
Q. If you could have dinner with any three people (alive or dead), who would it be?
A. Vito Corleone – Fictional character from Godfather. Tony Robbins – American author and coach. Arnold Schwarzenegger – Former Governor of California
Q. Complete this sentence: If I Wasn’t in Mortgage Broking, I would be…
A. Property Developer
